A night at the Emmy's

I watched most of the Emmy's last night and thought it was pretty good. My favorite speech was from a writer from My Name is Earl (at least I think that was the show he worked on). Instead of thanking people in his speech he wanted to say No Thank You to the people who didn't help him in life. It was hilarious, he called out his social studies teacher in high school who told him he wasn't funny and some previous bosses who treated him like crap! :) But of course, we have to talk about fashion!! I thought a lot of the actors and actresses were dressed very nice! There were some that looked pretty bad and some that made you wonder what type of drugs they were on!!

Here are some of my favorites:

Julia Louie-Dryfus. I thought she looked lovely! I am happy that she won an Emmy, and broke the Seinfeld curse (not having success after Seinfeld ended). She will always be Elaine to me!

Katherine Heigl from Grey's Anatomy. I love the old Hollywood look! She has a rockin body and looks fantastic in this dress.

Virginia Madison. I know her best from Sideways but she has also been in Firewall with Harrison Ford. I really like her dress, her hair and her accesseories!

Lisa Edelstein: She has been in a lot of TV shows like House, Felecity and West Wing. I liked her simple white dress. I debated on adding her to my best dressed list because her dress almost looks like a bridesmaid dress. But I liked it so here it is!

Now for the people who should have picked a different dress:

I don't know who this person is but this dress is pretty damn ugly.

Vanessa Minnillo: She is a VJ on MTV and is currently dating Nich Lachey. A gossip website said that she looked like "a San Gabriel Valley hooker dressing up for her neice's quinceanera". That pretty much sums it up!!!

Tracy Gold from Growing Pains. This would be a cute dress if she was about a foot taller!!! It makes her look like she is dressed up for Halloween in a big girl dress!

August has been a busy month for birthdays!!! Today is my gal pal's 21st birthday!!! :)

I hate to dwell on T.O. and all of his antics because I'm sure he loves all of the attention, but I just had to post this. The Cowboys fined T.O. $9500 for missing a couple of practices and late to another. I would love to see T.O. crash and burn this season!!!! But I'm sure he will have a couple of great games. I hate to admit this but he is a great football player when he doesn't allow his ego to get in the way. I am still hoping that the Cowboys get fed up with his shit and sideline him!!!! (a girl can wish!!)

I survived the Fantasy Football Draft


ahhhhh, I can finally relax! Yesterday was a lot of fun but it was draining. The first guy showed up at 5:15 and they all began to trickle in. We had decided to make hamburgers and chicken wings for the draft along with some chips and dips. I made a dip that is near and dear to my growing thighs, Sissy's Dip. Sissy's Dip is very simple but sooooo delish! Basically it is two types of shredded cheese mixed with some finely chopped onion, mayo and some spices. I highly suggest it!

Alright, back to the draft. The guys showed up drank some beer and caught up with each other before they started the draft. I like most of the guys, but there is one guy that sucks. He is just annoying and always brings up gay shit like wanting to see the others guys balls and then trying to grab other peoples junk. Taylor kept barking at him and Jim kept saying that she can sense evil :) Enough about the moron, the guys went about their business and started to draft their players. It was pretty interesting because Tyson and Jason couldn't 'make it so we had both of them on a conference call (thanks Cingular!) and we had Jason on webcam. Jason put his daughter on the cam and I am SOOOO amazed at how big she is getting!!! It has almost been two years since I have seen her (when they moved to Australia)!

I was a nice host during the draft and filled up everybody's drinks. I wasn't quite the beer bitch but more like a nice host :) After the draft we played poker. This was my first time actually playing with money and with other people. I have played it online and on a slot machine. I didn't loose all of my money on my first hand so I figured I did okay :) I probably played for about 45 minutes before I was bored and wanted to go to bed. I finally went to be around 2:30am. I woke up around 5:15 and decided to get up to figure out if anybody was still at the house or not. Well, I walked out to the dining room to find out that they were still playing. I think the game finally broke up around 6am. I don't know how they stayed up so long!!!

The house was a bit of a mess this morning but nothing that was to bad. The night was a success!! Jim said he wasn't as happy with his draft, but hopefully he will have a good season!!

The calm before the storm......

In just a few short hours my house is going to be full of men who have large amounts of football information running through their veins. They are going to show up with magazines and excel spreadsheets full of stats on all the current NFL players. That's right, tonight is the fantasy football draft. I bet if every guy put as much energy into school as they do on fantasy football they would all be extremely smart and famous doctors and lawyers :) Jim and I have spent the past couple of days cleaning the house and getting ready for the guys. He is out right now with Enoch getting the keg and I just finished with the food prep! I'll let you know how it goes!

Good Times


I met up with some friends that I used to work with last night. We met at a local restaurant, had some dinner, and laughed our asses off!!! These guys are hilarious and our conversations ranged from waiting in line for a Cher concert to having orgasm's from Apple Cobbler. April and I worked together for a couple of years, then we both moved on to different departments but always stayed in contact!! April then moved on to work with Tonya, Marty and Anna in the business department. I had such a great time!! I felt a little bad for the people eating around us because we were kind of loud at times.

You suck t.o.!!!!!

The majority of my family and I are big Eagles fans! So last year when t.o. did his best to ruin our team he became my enemy. I was disappointed when the Cowboys signed him to a pretty good deal days after he was released from the Eagles. But it looks like t.o. hasn't grown up and is becoming a thorn in the side of the Cowboys......

The showdown is definitely coming. The only thing we don’t know is exactly when high noon will arrive.
It could be closer than you think.
Like a couple of volatile 1800s Texas gunslingers working their way toward a Main Street shootout, Cowboys’ coach Bill Parcells and malingering wide receiver Terrell Owens indirectly tossed a couple of more verbal barbs towards each other Wednesday, using the media as a middle-man to send their respective messages.
It’s only a matter of time until this boils over into a full-fledged, face-to-face confrontation and the question is whether the ensuing conflagration will bring down the Cowboys this season as it did the Philadelphia Eagles in 2005.
At issue, as it has been for weeks now, is when, if ever, Owens will quit using his hamstring tweak as an excuse not to practice. He has ruled himself out for Saturday night’s preseason game with San Francisco at Texas Stadium, the third Cowboys’ preseason game he’s skipped, and hinted strongly that he might not make another appearance in a Dallas uniform before the season opener in Jacksonville Sept. 10.
That news prompted a quick response from Parcells when he addressed the media Wednesday.
“I wouldn’t put a player out there if I haven’t seen him practice,” Big Bill deadpanned.
Call it a warning a shot across Owens’ nose, if you will.
But in this test of two very strong wills, t.o. (I refuse to even capitalize his initials) isn’t flinching.
“If he wants to see something,” Owens said of Parcells, “he has 10 years of film he can go back and look on.”
Did I mention that t.o. remains one of sports’ biggest jerks?
Sure, Parcells has 10 years of film on Owens he can look at. He has 10 years of highlights on Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith, too, but that doesn’t mean they’re ready to step back onto the field and play either.
But in Owens’ small-minded little world, this is only about him and what he wants. And what he doesn’t want is to practice, or even play in exhibition games if he can help it.
And Parcells said Thursday he’s beginning to have strong doubts about Owens getting back onto the field before the season opener in Jacksonville, much less for the team’s final preseason game against Minnesota at home next Thursday.
Which, of course, suits t.o. just fine.
“I know what I’m capable of and what I can do when I get my hands on the ball,” Owens said.
What he’s forgetting is that he has to actually be on the field for that to happen.
Owens missed 14 consecutive practices and both of the Cowboys’ first two preseason games while the team was training in Oxnard, Calif. He came back for five practices, then went back to his seat on the stationary bike when he found out that Parcells wasn’t going to let him play in the Cowboys’ Monday night game against New Orleans at Shreveport.
Owens claimed he had aggravated the hamstring by being forced to do “too many” repetitions during practice but the message he sent was clear: No Monday Night Football, no t.o. on the practice field.
The Cowboys have been back at their Valley Ranch practice facility in Irving for a week, but t.o. hasn’t returned to the field.
“My thing is, I will be close to 100 percent before I get back on the field,” Owens told reporters. “I am not going to jeopardize my health because of speculation. So, at this point, I am going to be smart about it.”
He said he will not be pressured into returning before he’s sure his leg is ready.
“I felt like I’ve done that before and gotten no respect for it,” Owens said. “I’m just going to do what’s best for me, and I know what’s best for this team, and I know I’m looking at the big picture.
“Just because the MRI doesn’t show anything doesn’t mean I’m not hurting.”
Parcells has clearly already grown weary of the t.o. situation and the constant aggravation it provides. With the occasional snippy exception, his responses to media questions about Owens have been mostly placid and controlled. But that could merely be the calm before the storm.
“There is nothing I can do about it,” Parcells said of Owens’ continued absence from practice. “I really don’t know and I can’t worry about it. My job is to get my team ready for Jacksonville.”
More important than any clash between the head coach and Owens is whether this situation will ultimately lead to a major confrontation between Parcells and owner Jerry Jones.
If Owens doesn’t practice before the Sept. 10 opener, but insists he’s ready to play in the game and Parcells refuses to activate him, does Jones, as owner/general manager, step in to take t.o.’s side and mandate that he play? Or does he back his head coach over the alleged difference-making receiver he signed for the next three years for $25 million?
That’s where the rubber meets the road and it may be where the Cowboys’ season begins to unravel before it even starts.
The season opener is still 2 ½ weeks away. High noon, on the other hand, may be just around the corner.

Stupid Time Warner


Our internet has been out at our house for the past 2 days. I waited a day to call because sometimes it just comes back up without any issues. I called Time Warner last night and they said they would try to get somebody out to the house today (earliest appointment was on SAT!). Well it is 4:36 and still no call. This stinks because I had an assignment due for class that was late and I am supposed to send some pictures for Krista to get developed and I can't send the pictures without internet! Hmfpt! I hate being so dependent on the internet. I feel a little lost when I can't use it!!!Luckily my work isn't a stickler about internet usage so I have been able to keep up with my homework as well as keep my blog updated :)

UPDATE: I am a tad pissed right now. The cable guy called but he called Jim's phone and he didn't answer it (riding his bike home from work). I told the guy last night to call my cell phone to make sure we answered the call!!! The guy last night even repeated my number to make sure he had it right. The repair man won't stop by unless we answer the phone. >:( So because we missed the call, I have to sit on hold again to set up another appointment.

LAST UPDATE: Well, the Time Warner gods must have heard my cries because the repair guy showed up and made the internet work again! Apparently our modem died. RIP little modem!!!

If you could choose......


Would you rather live near a beach or near a lake in the forest? Of course this would be in a perfect world where you wouldn't have to worry about going to work because you were ridiculously rich and didn't have to work. I would pick the house in the forest near a lake. I like the idea of living near water but I also would like to live in an area that got snow or drive a short distance and be in the snow. I'm sure I feel this way because it has been so freaking hot lately. But the forest still appeals to me since you can be so close to nature, the weather is mild in the summer, you can experience seasons, and use a fire place because you need it not because you want to. Of course there is a lot of outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, camping, boating/skiing, rock climbing, or you can just sit on your porch and enjoy the silence. The beach has lots of good qualities and would be a very close second!

Yummy yummy to my tummy!

I bought a sangria mix from Williams Sonoma yesterday and I can't wait to try it! They had a sample in the store of the mix without the wine (just sparkling water) and it was very good. It was a bit on the fruity/sweet side but I figure the wine will mellow out the sweetness. It calls for red wine but I am curious to see how it tastes with white wine! The bottle of mix should be enough for two bottles of wine (you only need two cups of the mix per bottle of wine). I might try it this weekend, we'll see how it goes with the fantasy football guys at the house (more on that soon!!!).

Our new addition

We are adding to our family.... a new Dodge truck! :) We bought it tonight! This thing is huge! The top of the bed of the truck comes up to my shoulders. I haven't driven it yet but I can't wait. It feels like you are flying since you are so high in the truck. I think I just feel that way because I am practically on the ground when I drive the Jetta.

Weekend Update

We spent most of Saturday looking for a new truck for Jim. We test drove a Dodge and a Ford and figured out we liked the way the Ford handled, but we both liked the Dodge a lot better. Plus the Dodge is quite a bit cheaper. We think we found the perfect truck for a good price so we are going over there tonight to buy it. Wish us luck!!

The rest of the weekend was spent tinkering around the house and relaxing. I attempted to learn more about my photo edit software. I was frustrated in the beginning, but after I learned a few things it became a lot easier. I am in awe of the people who have mastered photo shop. I have a lot more practice to do!!!

I am in search of a good traveling poo-say (for those outside of the family, a poo-say is a purse). I need a larger poo-say to carry all of my crap without having it stuffed into my normal poo-say’s. I want something to hold everything like the travel paperwork, my little camera, books/magazines and crap. I’m not sure I really need one, but I want one :)

Jim's Margaritas

Since it is the weekend I thought I would share Jim's margarita recipe. It is a strong margarita so you might want to adjust the amount of tequila!


2 oz tequila (we are fans of Milagro, but everybody's tastes are different!!)
3/4 oz triple sec
the juice of 1/2 of a medium size lime
4-5 ice cubes
enough margarita mix to fill the glass
pinch of powered sugar
Stir and enjoy!

Another twist is to use limeaid instead of the margarita mix. It gives the drink a fresher taste and it is a lot cheaper!!! Jim doesn't use the powered sugar any more, but I like it in there. It mellows the tequila a bit!

Big Mean Pit Bull....


Yeah right! My brothers dog, Cyrus, is a pit bull and he is one of the sweetest dogs on earth! I had to share a picture that my mom sent me because it shows you just how ferocious(NOT!!!!) these dogs can be!



Poor Cyrus had to have his ear fixed by the vet because it was swollen from blood building up between the layers of his ears (I think that is the right way to descrbe it). The cause is probably from allergies and shaking his head back and forth. Poor little guy!!!

Not a good way to start a Friday......

....right after I got out of the shower this morning, the power went out and heard a loud pop. Jim came into the bathroom and said that he thought a transformer went out (the whole street was out, including some of the stop lights on the main street). Great. I'm sitting there with wet hair and I still have to iron my clothes for the day. So I continue to get ready hoping that the power will just pop back on but it doesn't. I'm not really worried about my hair, but I had to leave the house today a bit wrinkled. That bothers me. I am slightly concerned because the kids are in the house, and I don't want them stuck in a hot house all day. I guess it is still better than sitting outside in 100 degree weather. Hopefully, the city will get everything fixed soon!

A Car Milestone!!



As I was driving to work yesterday I realized that my car had exactly 100,000 miles on it!!! I did what any normal person would do and grab my camera phone and take a picture :) I can't believe that my little car has that many miles on it! I hope it will go another 100,000 miles but I'll be happy with another 50,000 miles!! Way to go little Jetta! :)

The Old Fart Tour

The Rolling Stones are going to be playing in Austin. I have absolutely no desire to see them play. I like some of their songs, but just not willing to pay $95 per ticket to sit outside for a concert. It is a general admission ticket so you don't know how close you can get and you might be sitting in the middle of dirt. Not all of Zilker is grass! After the 50 years they have been doing concerts, can't they afford to drop the price of their tickets??? I guess I'm just not willing to pay that type of money to see a bunch of weathered wrinkled men jumping around on stage :)

I think this picture is hilarious! It is a picture of Heath Ledger (Brokeback mountain) and Michelle Williams (also Brokeback, but mostly known from Dawson's Creek). I guess they were fed up with the photographers hounding them on their vacation.

Seriously, Nine Years?!?!?!?


Today is my ninth anniversary with Cingular. I can't believe I have been working there for NINE years! That is such a long time! That is about the same time that good students can finish high school and college! In that time I worked for GTE Wireless, Southwestern Bell Wireless and Cingular Wireless. Now it looks like we might be changing our name to AT&T Wireless (depending on what happens with the merger of Southwestern Bell (Cingular's parent company) and AT&T). I like my job and the challenges it presents (sounds like I'm on an interview, huh!!). If I could pick my perfect job it would have to be something with animals and photography. Maybe I'll travel to Africa and take pictures of the lions or I can travel to Alaska, sit on a boat and take pictures of the whales. Apparently I would like to incorporate travel in my perfect job as well :). I am curious to see if I'll be at Cingular (or whatever they may be called) in nine more years!

A Monday Pop Quiz: Does anybody know what is in this picture?

Well, it is a transmission (kudo's to you if you knew that!!!). Why do I have a picture of a transmission on my blog, you ask? Because we think Jim's transmission is dying in his truck. We were driving around on Saturday and he would press the gas, his engine would rev but we wouldn't move :0. It kept doing this the entire way home! What is with older cars breaking down? My mom and Courtney recently purchased new cars because their older cars were breaking down. Hopefully there will be good (and cheap) news once we finally get it to a mechanic. Jim can ride his bike to work so we have an alternative while we get the truck looked at. Wish us luck!

UPDATE!! Well the mechanic could not find any problems with the transmission. He said he drove it around and couldn't duplicate the problem. From what I have been told, the transmission isn't something you can just open up and look at and close. Once you open it you have to fix it or at least replace the parts that you opened. So I think we are going to trade in his truck and buy a new one. At least now his truck is working so we should get a fair trade in price.

Here kitty, kitty, kitty, kitty!

We had some excitement this afternoon. I let the dogs in the back yard without realizing the neighbors cat was hanging out in our yard. Well after lots of screaming at the dogs and chasing them around trying to get them to stop chasing the cat, the cat ended up in our big tree.

Here is a picture to show how far up the cat was in the tree. The cat is hard to see, but he is white and almost at the top if this picture.


We let the cat stay up there for about 4-5 hours to see if he would come down, but he was still up there and panting (it was 100 degrees today). So Jim climbed on our ladder with the hope of coaxing the cat down. We didn't have a lot of luck, so we decided to wait a bit longer.

A little later in the afternoon.......

So I'm in the kitchen when I see this (the picture above) and of course I grab the camera then go outside to ask why he thinks he is superman. I love his intentions of saving the cat, but this situation just got a little unsafe for Jim. I finally convinced him to wait and let the cat come down on it's own.


I'll keep you posted on the kitty situation!


KITTY UPDATE! Well, the kitty found his way home! We checked this morning, and we couldn't see him in the tree so we hope that he got down okay! Thank God Jim isn't going to attempt to climb the tree to rescue the cat!!!

UT Tower


Jim and I went on the UT tower tour. I have wanted to go for years but never got around to going. We were lucky and got the last two spots on the 8pm tour. I wanted to go later in hopes of seeing a great sunset and to see Austin at night. We missed the sunset but was able to see Austin at night. We learned some interesting facts like the tower is 307 feet tall and it took five years to build (1932-1937). Originally it was the library but the students didn't actually get to go into the tower, they would write down their book requests, give it to a worker, and they would go and get the book for them. There are still book depository doors in the building. The tower was closed for almost thirty years after Charles Whitman went on a shooting spree in 1966. We had a good time!!!

Not that I really need any with the husband, but I gained quite a few brownie points today. Before I go any further I guess I should explain what a brownie point is. Brownie points is a term I learned from my mama, and they mean that I did something good for somebody kind of like brown nosing. So if you give a gift out of the blue or do something really cool like offering to baby sit on a Friday night, you will win brownie points.

So today I had to take my dad to the doctor in Temple. I had some downtime while he was at the doctor so I drove up to Waco to get Taco Bueno (kind of like Taco Bell) for Jim. Jim LOVES Taco Bueno and is very sad that the store in Georgetown closed. He used to work there with some friends and every once in awhile late at night after drinking they will have long conversations on how much they miss Taco Bueno and the pro’s and con’s to all of the items on the menu. Jim likes Taco Bueno as much as I like Macayo’s and Some Burros. I bought 5 different items from the menu because I wasn’t sure what he would want and I didn’t want to call and ruin the surprise. He was SOOOOO happy when he got home and found out what we were having for dinner! :)

My Monday Surprise!!!!!

When I came home on Monday I had a package waiting for me!!! I wasn't expecting anything so I wasn't sure what it was. I noticed the initials on the return label and knew immediately that I would love whatever it was on the inside. And I was sooooo right!! See the pictures below....

My Homework!!!

I have had homework assignments each week for my photography class. The first week I was supposed to take pictures using different angles of one subject. I took these pictures....

I was lucky to have my camera near me while Chewie was laying like this! My teacher loved my pictures, but it is hard is dislike pictures of my pooh-pah!!!

For my second week, our homework was to take a picture of a landscape either at sunrise or sunset. Well, I waited until the last damn minute to take the picture of a sunset on Tuesday night (class is on Weds) and I couldn't get a good picture. There are way to many hills in Austin, and the sun set behind a hill before I could find a good place to take a picture. That meant that I was getting up early the next morning. I woke up at an un-godly hour, climbed a little hill, and waited for the sun to rise. Just my luck, it was overcast and the clouds totally hid the sun rise. I guess I deserved it for waiting until the last minute. I don't have any of those pictures handy, but I'll post some later.

For my third week, our assignment was to take a picture at night. I was very excited about this assignment and couldn't wait to take pictures! I have a couple of idea's of places to take pictures (downtown) but I decided to go to an overpass over Mopac. Here are two pictures that I took.....

I keep the shutter open for 4 seconds in these pictures. That is why the cars look like red and white lines! I also took some pictures of stained glass at a church, but the pictures didn't turn out. I don't think there was enough light to show the colors of the stained glass. I can't wait to get downtown to take some night photos!!!

We decided to go to Z Tejas for dinner on Saturday. I usually order the same dish every time I go, the cajun crab stuffed chicken. It is so yummy and fantastic. Well, I was going to change things up and order something different but noticed that my cajun chicken wasn’t on the menu. I asked the waitress about it and she said it was now considered a special and that after this weekend they wouldn’t be offering it any more. CRAP! Double CRAP! This totally sucks ass! I really enjoyed this dish and I haven’t seen anything like it in any other restaurant. I ordered my last cajun chicken and enjoyed every last bite! Maybe I’ll have to protest by refusing to eat at Z Tejas! :)




On a brighter note, we finally went to see Pirates of the Caribbean. It was just as good as I had hoped! Jim liked the first one better, but I liked each of them equally! I am interested to see what the third movie will be like!

Our tickets for the Eagles/Texans football game finally arrived! The game is still 5 weeks away but I can't wait!!! We'll be going to the game with my uncle, his friends, Tomhave and Lindsey. The tickets are in the nosebleed section but it was the best we could do (we needed 7 seats together)! It is the first game of the season, when every fan has hope their team will make it to the Super Bowl :) Eagles will hopefully beat the shit out of the Texans!

I soaked it up like a sponge….

I had the excellent opportunity to watch Rachel work with a professional photographer today. She had her pictures taken at Andrew Sterling’s studio (http://www.sterlingimagesonline.com/). Rachel wasn’t sure if he would be okay with bringing a friend so she told him that I was the hair and makeup person. He he he! Well, while Rachel was in the restroom changing and getting ready he started to ask me how long I have been doing hair and make up just to make small talk. Well, I confessed that I was there more for moral support than hair and make up. But I still had to go with my new title and “fluff” her hair every once in awhile. :) I learned a lot about different types of lighting and poses just by watching him work. I must have asked too many questions about photography because he asked if I took pictures. I just said that I was a casual photographer who was looking for more. I didn't want to take anything away from Rachel's shoot so I held back my questions! He was such a nice guy and explained why he took pictures the way he did as well as gave me his background. He has no formal training, but did work with a photographer for years to learn. His work is fantastic and I have no doubt that Rachel’s pictures will be fantastic. If anything, I learned today that photography is in my future and I can’t wait to learn more and become a better photographer!!!!!
