The Kids

While Jim was away, I was able spend a lot of quality time with the kids. In fact it became normal to be in the middle of them at all times, especially on the couch and in the bed. Yes, we let these two sleep with us and I think they are the reason that I need massages (well, that and because they feel wonderful!!).

As some of you know, Taylor was diagnosed with liver cancer and a tumor on her spleen 3 weeks ago. It was a blow to our family because Taylor is such a tough bitch (I mean that in the best possible way). Turns out that when I took her to the vet she had a fever, but then the vet took an x-ray to find what was causing the fever and that is when he saw the tumor and cancer. They did a biopsy to make sure his diagnosis was right, and unfortunately it was. We didn't have many options that didn't leave Taylor in pain or sick (chemo) and it was the vet's advice to let her live out the rest of her life without any surgery or chemo. If I thought that there was a cure that was out there that would extend her life, and give her a painless life then I would do it.

Taylor was my very first dog. Twelve years ago I found her at Town Lake Animal Shelter as a little pup and she has been with me ever since! She was named "Jan" at the shelter and she was so timid in the cage. That is until you went in and sat with her. She was very sneaky... she had eaten half of my shoe lace before I even realized what was going on and she has kept up her "stealthiness" ever since. Ever since we found out about her illness we have been feeding her chicken, eggs, and a little pot roast :) She deserves all the human food that she wants and we are giving her all of the loving that we possibly can while she is still here to grace our lives.

My boo, Taylor

Chewie and Taylor, taking over the bed as usual

He is trying to use his mental skills to get me to feed him steak from the fridge

Chewie checking out what is going on outside
Chewie and I went to Town Lake to get a little exercise on Friday. I thought it might be a nice time to get a few pictures of Chewie but he is WAY more interesting in everything but me and the camera. Almost all of my photos are either a blur of a moving Chewie or him looking off at what is going on or walking by. So I just added a few of the better photos.

wooohoooo! Chewie!! Mama is over here!!
Love, love, love this photo!! I love the way his tongue curls up

I thought a picture of Chewie with downtown in the background would be a good shot... but Chewie sat for a nano second before he got up and came over to say Hi.

Some of the other photos that didn't exactly turn out the way I wanted

I just love your doggie pics! Even if they don't turn out the way you wanted, they always show so much of their personality.

So very sorry to hear about Taylor. But I think you're doing the right thing...letting her live her life without the stressors that treatment would surely bring.

Thank you Optimista! The mommy in me wants to do everything I can to save my pup, but I know she will be happier if I don't put her through the treatments that could (and would) put her through pain and sickness during her last days/weeks. I'm doing everything I can (treats, car rides, going on walks, human food) to pamper her.
