Happy Halloween!!!!!!

I love Halloween!!! I have had all of my decorations out for weeks and I even decided to decorate at work. I'm a little sad that today is Halloween because I'll have to take my decorations down. :( We don't have any plans to go out tonight but downtown always has a huge party where they shut down the streets. Since it is Tuesday and I don't feel like having a hang over tomorrow we'll be staying home. I hope everybody has a wonderful Halloween!!! Send me pictures if you dressed up!!!

Sunday Brunch

We tried a new place for bunch today based on a recommendation from Sarah and Orly, and we loved it!! Cisco's is on east 6th street near Nuevo Leon. They are only open for breakfast and lunch, and serve delicious Mexican food. We both ordered Migas but Jim tried something new and got steak fajita meat with his migas. It was a wise choice and I'll order it next time!!! They also served really good homemade biscuits along with tortillas with our breakfast. We were able to sit down right away but there looked to be a small wait when we were leaving (maybe about 10-15 minutes). I highly suggest checking Cisco's out for breakfast!!

We drove through downtown on our way home and was surprised to see that the city is already putting up Christmas decorations!! At least they could wait until November!

Sophisticated and Shit

Courtney and I went to the ballet on Friday night. It has been years since I have gone to the ballet so I thought it would be fun! I asked Jim if he wanted to go (even though I knew the answer) but he said no, but that he would go to the Nutcracker when it got closer to Christmas. We arrived a little late, but there were plenty of seats. The ballet was Classic Beauty which is an adaptation of Sleeping Beauty. The ballet focus on the preparations of the wedding, then the prince and princess are married! I had a good time! I don't think it is something I can do every week, but every 4-6 months would be fun! I took some pictures while we were there. We sat in the upper balcony, and I couldn't use my flash, so the pictures are a little fuzzy!

After the ballet we decided to head downtown for a drink or two. We ended up going to Six because it was close and we really couldn't think of where to go. It was mildly busy and had a few people dressed up for Halloween. We had to use the "I'm married" to a guy who was dressed up as a porn star to get him to realize that he was wasting his time talking to us. I don't normally pull that card, but this guy was annoying us. He didn't believe us that his costume wasn't going to win any points with the ladies. I thought he was Mario from "Super Mario Brothers" video game. See what you think.... there is a picture below!

Here are some pictures:

The view from the rooftop bar

The dressed up porn star guy that looked more like Mario from the video game

At Six Nightclub, the required self picture

We wear our sunglasses at night

I have no idea why I took this picture

Just have to say that I totally love Grey's Anatomy. I don't care if they are repeats or a new episode. I will stop everything I am doing and watch it. Give me some McDreamy or McSteamy! :) But honestly, I love the story line just not the hunky men.
Comfortable shoes = ugly shoes

I have been searching for comfortable stylish pair (or pairs) of shoes for work. The problem with comfortable is that comfortable isn't usually cute or trendy. Not that I'm a huge trendy fan, but I'm also not a fan of Granny style. Anywho, I am really amazed at how hard it has been to find a comfortable pair of work shoes that I like. Granted, I am picky. Really picky but I refuse to just settle because I know I won't be happy unless I really like the shoes.

I have one other issue with comfortable shoes, my pants. My pants have been hemmed based on wearing heals and all of the comfortable shoes I have been trying on have either no or really short heels. I like wearing my heals but don't see the point any more of wearing them to work (unless I am wearing a skirt) . Or if I am going out on a night on the town, I have no problem wearing my "hooker" heals. :) What to do, what to do.

I just got a coupon in the mail from DSW so I'll have to stop by the shoe warehouse to see if they can offer me cute comfortable work shoes. Wish me luck, I'll need it.

Kermit the Frog

I found this cute little frog hanging out in the hose on the side of the yard. We usually have quite a few frogs that live either in our yard or near our yard in the creek each year. Chewie loves to play with the frogs but he just doesn't understand that you can't step on them. :)

THUD!!

We have a metal roof (popular with older homes in this area) and anytime something falls on it, we can hear it in the house. Right now we have our windows open because of the nice weather and we can hear stuff outside a lot clearer. Well, we have two large trees that are near the house that have acorns falling off of them at a rapid rate. :) This is causing a lot of THUDS, then a rolling sound as they roll off of the roof. I can't really say it bothers me, but we do make comments on the really loud THUDS. And if there is a really loud THUD and a long roll, then I will probably crack a smile. I'm not sure why I think it is funny, it just is. Occasionally we will hear the squirrels running across, but it has to be really quite in the house to hear them.

Ride em' cowgirl and cowboy!!!

I can't believe I forgot to post these pictures! On our last night in New Orleans we found a bar on Bourbon Street that had a mechanical bull!!!! After I saw the bull I knew that I had to ride it. It was so much fun!!! We had 3 tries (or falls, however you look at it) during your ride. I thought Jim and I did pretty good. We were both thrown off every time, but the floor surrounding the bull was soft and bouncy so you didn't hurt yourself. I now want to rent a mechanical bull for our next party!! =) I think it is pretty funny that I live in Texas but I had to go to New Orleans to ride a mechanical bull.

Friday Night Party

We headed over to Sarah and Orly's new house for a party on Friday night. There were snacks, a keg, beer pong ball, good music, even more snacks, and the ever so famous Jenga. =) I seriously have not played this much Jenga in my life. But it is a fun game with a lot of people. I should mention that Sarah and Orly didn't have Jenga, Norm actually went out to Wal-mart to buy it so we could play. Norm is one hard core Jenga lover, and we like him for it!! This was a typical party, had a little man tiff over Jenga (no, seriously there was almost a fight over Jenga), there was some puke (luckily it was outside, and it was somebody that I don't know well), and we even had the cops show up. Whew! What a party!! :)

Eagles -vs- Saints

One of the main reasons we went to New Orleans was to see the Eagles play the Saints. While we were on the way to a game, our taxi was stopped by a parade. We had no idea what the parade was about until we started to see the Eagles shirts all over the place. Apparently, somebody organized an Eagles fan parade. So we jumped out of the taxi and joined our fellow Eagles fans! They were loud, obnoxious, and hilarious! The Eagles have some crazy ass fans!!
Our tickets were kind of in the nose bleed section, but we still had a good view. Unfortunately, the Eagles lost by a field goal. Crap. Oh well, at least we enjoyed ourselves the rest of the trip! :)

New Orleans Pictures

I love all of the detail the buildings have! Plus the majority of the porches have large healthy plants hanging off of the side.

Bourbon Street
This was a crushed rose on the sidewalk in front of a bar on Bourbon Street.

The Saint Louis cathedral in the French Quarter

This was the first time we went inside of the Saint Louis cathedral. It was a beautiful church. One interesting fact that we learned was that there were about 100 souls buried beneath the alter. They were all associated with the church. It is now sealed so nobody else can be laid to rest under the alter.
This was behind the church at night.

We took this outside of a visitors center in the French Quarter. I love the brick wall behind us.

One place we love to eat at is Clover Grill. They have really good cheap food, and their menu is funny. Check out what they have beneath the "Clover Weenie".

This lone beer cap was sitting all by it's self on part of the board walk near the Mississippi. Abita is a tasty beer!!

Jim was pondering what to order at Clover Grill. His final choice was a cheese burger with bacon and jalapenos!

This was a street a couple of blocks off of Bourbon. There were a lot of antique stores with beautiful products!

I took this right after dusk near our favorite bar on Bourbon Street. I love the color of the sky and the dark contrast of the buildings and trees.

Typical Photographer Quote

Have you seen the commercial for the new movie Flags of our Fathers? I believe that Clint Eastwood is a director or producer and it is about the battle at Iwo Jima and the photo that was taken of the five Marines and a Navy corpsman raising the flag on Mount Surivachi. The movie looks like it will be pretty good but something struck me as funny on their movie trailer. During the trailer it shows the photographer who took the photo mentioned above saying that "he wished he could have gotten their faces in their pictures". Here is a photographer who took a well known picture and still wasn't happy with his result. :) It cracks me up every time I see the commercial because that is how I feel a lot of times when I am taking pictures. I always think the pictures can be better if I could just get the subject to move a little (if they don't know they are being photographed) or I wish I could find higher ground for a better angle for the picture. I felt this way in New Orleans. I took a lot of night pictures (when the city was alive), but most of them didn't turn out (to blurry). I didn't take my tri-pod (to cumbersome) so I was using walls and light posts to steady my camera while I took pictures with longer exposures. I did get some good photos but I know I would have had a lot more if I just had my tri-pod. Oh well, I'm sure I'll take it next time!!!!
We're Back!!

Hello! We got back from vacation just fine!! We did so much while we were in New Orleans, but it felt like we were only there for a few hours.

I have a ton of pictures and I'm sorting through them now. I should have some posted soon!!!

Saturday, October 14, 2006

Hello all! Just wanted to stop and say Hi!! We went on our devestation tour today. It was a good tour because we saw a lot of New Orleans that we haven't seen before. Some areas were still in ruin and others were fine.

The weather is surprising cool! Not quite jacket weather but long sleeves and jeans. Very nice and welcomed!

Sorry if my posts look funny or have spelling errors, I am writing my posts on my Blackberry!!!

Talk to you later! We're off to find a place to watch the Texas football game!!

Reporting from Bourbon Street....

The Eagles fans are out in full force around Bourbon Street!! A lot of people are walking around wearing Eagle green and screaming go Eagles!!!! :). I love it!!

We just found a bar that has 3 for 1 drinks.... Gotta go. :)
Oooooooohhhhhhhh, freaky, it is Friday the 13th!!:)

We are sitting on the plane waiting to take off!!! I'm not very superstitous (sp??) But I wonder if people change their plans because they are afraid of the day, Friday the 13th. I will say that being in New Orleans in the Friday the 13 will be eerie!! :). Maybe we'll do some type of voodoo tour!

We don't have any set plans once we get to our hotel. We'll probably just walk around the french quarter!!!!

Takin it easy in the Big Easy!!

We leave tomorrow for New Orleans!! This was an unexpected vacation that we booked 2 weeks ago. Our main reason for going is to check out the Eagles/Saints football game! We were able to get tickets to the game and the airfare wasn't to expensive so we decided to go! I am really interested to see the city post-Katrina, I haven't been to New Orleans since the hurricane. We are going to do a "Hurricane Katrina" tour to check out the area's that were hit the hardest. I really want to see these area's first hand. I know it will be depressing but it is a good opportunity to see something that will be in the history books. I will take lots of pictures while we are there so I'll post them once we get back.

We are staying in the French Quarter so we will be within walking distance of a lot of historical area's, and Bourbon Street :). New Orleans, here we come!!!

Holy Cow!

It is so eerie to say, "a plane hit a building in Manhattan". There is such a large set of emotions that is associated with that sentence. But this time it was an accident. Apparently a small air plane had issues and crashed into an apartment building on 72nd street in Manhattan. A Yankee pitcher, Cory Lidel, was in the plane when it crashed. I don't know much about him except that he was a decent pitcher and he was traded to the Yankee's from the Phillies earlier this year.

So far, CNN is reporting that there were only two fatalities (Lidel and possibly his flying instructor). I think that is amazing since they flew into an apartment building in a major city.

Fall Decoration Project

I was shopping in Michaels the other day when I saw a cool project that I could make for the house! It is a fake pumpkin, that you can carve, with silk flowers sticking out of the top of it. It probably took me 20 minutes to make it. I have it set up on our coffee table in the den and will probably leave it there until after Thanksgiving!!

My craft project laid out and ready to go!

I can't sit on my floor and do anything without the dogs coming over to check out what I am doing. Chewie literally sat about 2 feet away the entire time I was trying to put my project together :)

Once Chewie moved away, Taylor took his place.

My finished product! I ended up going back to Michaels to get some "filler" for the flowers since it looked kind of bare. So I got some fall colored leaves to put in around the top of the hole in the pumpkin.
