S * N * O * W
If we are lucky, we get to see snow once a year. Yes, I understand that other parts of the county might think I am nuts for enjoying snow, but I can't help it. Snow is freaking awesome! We had 3 days/nights of seriously low temperatures for Austin. Highs hovering around freezing, and lows around the low 20's to teens. There were a TON of people in Austin complaining about the temperatures, but honestly I just didn't think it was that bad. Perhaps it is because I can remember what summer feels like, and I can't stand butt sweat.. Yeah that's right... I get butt sweat during the summer. File that under TMI (Too Much Information).
On Thursday night, I kept walking outside looking for some type of indication that we could expect snow. However, I kept seeing little bits of rain. BOOOO. Around 11:30, I noticed more of a flake than rain..... see the picture below...
So I went to bed all giddy because I knew I would wake up to a snow covered town. Well, at least I hoped for a snow covered town.

Jim and I ventured outside to check it out, and the neighborhood was eerily quiet. I love hearing the crunch of snow while walking on it. Oh how I wished it snowed at least once a month during winter :)

On our street

This was Abby's first time in snow and it didn't even faze her. She took a second to look at the crunching sound while walking on it, then it was back to business as usual. Both of the dogs were completely hyper and ran across the yard chasing each other... as you can see with the next few photos...

She was coming at me full force... it was a little scary :)
I walked down to the creek behind the house to find a beautiful scene. I wish I could have gotten closer to the water for pictures, but it is a steep bank and didn't feel like falling in :)
This is one of my favorite photos of the day..

By the end of the day about 95% of the snow had melted :( Good bye snow... we had fun while it lasted

Abbey and Chewie

Since Mother Nature continues to give us Spring like weather, I have been spending a decent amount of time outside with the dogs. I'm not a fan of 80 degree weather at the end of November, but I guess it is better than 100 degree weather :).

Abbey will tear through any manufactured toy I put in front of her. Some times the toy will last 5 minutes and sometimes I get lucky and it takes her a day to destroy. She also loves the sticks in the backyard. We have left some of the bigger branches that have fallen because she'll chew on them all day if we let her. It is the cheapest and longest lasting toy that we have found. I just wish it was cleaner and I would totally let her bring it in the house. Well, I would let her bring it in the house once it was smaller. She runs around with the sticks that are over 3 feet long and she doesn't have a clue when she hits something, so I can't see bringing it into the house and letting her roam free with it.

Chewie was more relaxed the day I was taking pictures... I didn't have to chase him around or watch out for flying sticks.

This was the first time I have seen her use the tree to balance herself while barking at a squirrel :) Watch out squirrel's, you have another doggie after you

Yeah, that's right... I dressed up my dog

I really wasn't planning on dressing up Abbey or Chewie for Halloween, but when I went into Petsmart the other day they had costumes on clearance. WOOOHOOO :) Lucky for Chewie, they didn't have costumes big enough for him. I got the XL for Abbey, and it was still tight on her.

I knew going into this that it was going to be a struggle. My plan was to get the camera ready, quickly put on the costume, then snap away. Well, Abbey is far quicker than my reflexes to get the camera before she had started flair her body around trying to get the costume off of her.

I did manage to get one or two that wasn't a blur but none with the little hat that had the cow ears. Oh well... it was a fun 15 minutes trying to get it to work.

One of the good photos

At this point she had accidently pulled the top of the costume over her head and got it stuck. So she was running around blind trying to get off the evil costume.

Lunch with the kids

I am so grateful that I live very close to where I work. It helps me in the mornings when I am running late, if I leave something at home I can get it within 10 minutes, and I can eat lunch at home and hang out with the kids.

I took these photos with an iPhone while at home during lunch with the pups

What was supposed to be a fun day....

ended up with Abby and I at the emergency vet. Abby and I headed down to Town Lake for a walk, a swim, and some butt sniffing. I wanted to get her around some other dogs so she became more comfortable around other dogs. She was prancing around while we walked to Auditorium shores, desperately trying to dive into the water. Once we got to the leash less area, we walked to the water and I let her go to play in the water. Another dog came along and they started to play friendly so I let them play for about 15 minutes. They chased each other around, they splashed and swam and basically had fun. I noticed at one point she was limping, but then promptly put her foot down and keep sniffing around. I put the leash back on her and was going to head further into the park when she stopped again to sniff her foot. I bent down to check, and found that she was bleeding. SHIT! I saw where she was cut, and it was up in her foot past her pads. I didn't want her walking in the dirt so I picked her up and carried her to the pavement. I wish I could have carried her further, but I didn't have the strength. Luckily we were only about 1.5 blocks to the car. I had a towel in the car, so I dried her off and then got a better look at her foot. Her foot had 2 different cuts, so I'm guessing that there was some type of glass in the water. Double SHIT!

Once we got home, I put her into my bathtub and cleaned her off and washed out her foot. She was such a great little girl, she only tried to get out of the tub once and let us mess with her foot to make sure there wasn't dirt in there. We wrapped up her foot and placed her on the couch. She took a nap as soon as she got onto the couch so I had a small hope that we wouldn't have to go to the vet. But as soon as she got up from the nap and put pressure on her foot, it started to bleed again.

That big boy is Theodore, sweet dog playing with Abby.

I was a little nervous at this point... Abby was eyeballing the kayak out in water like she was going to swim out to them. Thankfully she went back to playing with Theodore
After getting home from the vet. She had to be put under for the stitches. She was pretty loopy with glassy eyes for the rest of the night.
This morning she was still a little slow, but you could tell the light was back in her eyes. She is still gimpy, but that is to be expected. Her first act of our lunch time visit, was to sit in the sun and chew on a stick. After the stick, she took the opportunity to munch on Chewies neck while he was laying down :)
During our vet visit, she got weighed and surprisingly she now weighs 53 pounds. 53 POUNDS. No wonder I could only carry her so far when she hurt her foot! Tonight we will take off the bandage and make sure the stitches look okay. Poor girl!! She is so accident prone! We'll shower her with lots of love and make sure she heals properly!

Eating Downtown

Last week I headed downtown to try a new cart that had just opened, but by the time i got there the line was longer that i had hoped for. I brought Abby with me, and I was starving, so waiting in a line that was 15 people deep did not seem like a good idea. I'll be back to try that cart and I'll report back when I finally eat there.

On the way to the new cart, I walked past a few other carts... a PoBoy cart, a Baverain food cart, and another cart that I can't remember but I knew which cart I would eat at... Kebabalicious! I have seen them around town but having gotten around to eating there yet.

Here we are waiting for my food. How cute is this picture?!?! :)

I ordered the chicken wrap, it has Romain lettuce, tomatoes, onions, feta cheese, tzatziki and a spicy red sauce. The wrap itself is kind of like a pita, but thinner and more malleable. I really enjoyed my wrap and I am kicking myself for not getting there sooner to try them out!

I ate in front of one of the buildings downtown while Abby rolled around in the grass. She only tried once or twice to try to get a bite, but thankfully she was more interested in people watching and rolling in the grass!

Our Pups!
I think this was after a day of play at a park. They look so sleepy!

When she sleeps on the couch, this is typically how she lays. It cracks me up every time I see her lay like this.

Happy Pups!

Look at that sweet face and tongue! Love it!
