Sushi

Tonight we decided to try out Musashino for dinner. We realized it had been far to long since we have had sushi. So it was decided... sushi for dinner! We were able to get a table in about 30 minutes when we walked up on a Friday night. It was a non-issue since we just sat at the bar and enjoyed a water (...ha! Just kidding, of course we had a couple of beers).

I wish I had taken a few minutes more to get a good picture, but I had two things going against me. 1) there was very low light 2) I could see Jim eyeballing the sushi, he was ready to eat and not exactly ready to wait while I positioned the sushi next to the candle light to get a good picture :).

We ordered the....

  • Rainbow Roll- California roll with tuna, fresh salmon, shrimp, avocado and white fish on top
  • Texas Roadkill- jalapeno, habanero and orange smelt caviar on the outside, cucumber, avocado and tuna
  • Spicy Lobster Roll- chunk of lobster and avocado roll served with spicy hybrid sauce.
Our favorite's were the Spicy Lobster roll and the Texas Roadkill. The Rainbow Roll had a good fresh flavor, but it lacked flavor or perhaps spice. The Roadkill roll was good on it's own, but when you dipped it into the jalapeno/habanero sauce you could expect your mouth to instantly feel on fire- but in a good way :). And the Lobster roll was good on it's own, but it was taken to a different level when dipped in the sauce.

I am really looking forward to going back to Musashanio for sushi and to Chinatown for Chinese food (the restaurant that was above Mushashino).

Matt's Birthday dinner and drinks

On Saturday night we met up with friends to have dinner and drinks to celebrate Matt's birthday. We had dinner at Maiko and and then headed to Molotov for drinks. The boys were at the lake all day, but luckily they drank enough water so they were okay for the night. Jim and I had some amazing sushi even if one roll was hot enough to make me drink tons of water :o)

The roll with the tuna on top is the Texas Monster.... I can't remember exactly what is in the middle, but something like avocado, green onion, tempura shrimp, and on the outside, there is tuna and a dollop of a tequila lime sauce. It was a pretty tame roll, but it was very good. The other roll was the Heat of the Moment and it was fucking hot. It was a spicy tuna topped with jalapenos but it was a good heat.

This was a great drink... blackberry moijto. A bit sweet, but a nice way to start the night

Charlie had a couple of extra pieces of sushi and Jim said that he would help him finish it. Charlie was nice enough to feed Jim... not sure how I feel about this but it did make for a funny picture and had the entire table laughing.

We went to a roof top bar after dinner, and it was slightly miserable. It was so humid and hot, even though we had a few fans blowing on us. I was sticky all night.

Nick and Megan... not sure why they look like they have a tint of green to them

We walked from the restaurant to the bar, and on the way we found these mail boxes that screamed for a photo op.

Seriously. Lindsay was able to fling her leg over the mailbox without any problems. I would have pulled a hammy then fallen on my ass if I tried that. Megan and I went with the hooker move for the picture.

Not to be out done.... Nick humped the light pole.

The two tall boys of the group, Nick and John, were fighting over the fan and which way it would blow. It was at this point, that I moved away for fear that the fan would fall down.

Birthday Dinners at the County Line

We headed to dinner with Jim's family for Jamie and his dad's birthday dinner. We had an awesome table that overlooked the water (which is part of Lake Austin). We had a good time hanging out with everybody and enjoying our BBQ!

There was a guy walking around the restaurant making balloon animals for the kids. Dawson had a cat made, Caden had an air guitar made and Ryan had a motorcycle made. The guy was pretty good making the balloon items. Caden had asked for a un-blown up balloon so he could play with it. He tried through out the dinner to blow that sucker up, and didn't have any luck!

I ordered the special of St. Louis ribs. They were FANTASTIC. I don't think they are better than Rudys, but they are a very close 2nd. They had a lot of meat on each bone and it was very tender. The sides (potato salad and coleslaw) were just Eh. Not great, not bad.

Ryan also got a un-blown up balloon.... and as you can see, he didn't have much luck getting it blown up. Check out those cheeks!

After dinner we all headed outside to feed the turtles.

There were SOOOOO many turtles. I don't think I have seen so many turtles in one area. They knew it was supper time and came out to get fed!

My MIL took a couple of photos of us. I wonder what I am thinking here....

I imagine this is how I look 98% of the time... always a camera in my hand ready to catch the shots

Ashley's Birthday Dinner

Yesterday a bunch of us met up for Ashley's birthday dinner at the Iron Cactus. It had been awhile since we have all gotten together to sit down and talk, so it was wonderful to see everybody. The restaurant kind of sucked... there were maybe 5 tables taken in the entire place and we still got horrible service. Took 20 minutes to get water after he took our drink orders, then another 10 minutes to get the drinks that we actually ordered. It kind of went downhill after that. Luckily we had a lot to talk about, so we weren't just sitting around and waiting for everything. Jason and Ashley brought the kids, so of course we passed around the baby the table for everybody to love on him. He is such a good little guy and didn't fuss at all until the end (after being there a little over 2 hrs). Kyndal is getting so darn big. She is going to be taller than me within the next couple of years. She jumped into my arms when I first saw her and I had to brace myself so we didn't fall into the table :o)

I accidental hit a different lay out for the pictures.. gonna leave it because the internet is moving slow and I don't want to wait for them to upload again.
